Steveston's men's fastpitch team competed and brought home fourth place in the International Softball Congress World Championships.

The Steveston Canadians, a local team of young players from the Richmond Boys Fastball Association, led by Brad Miller, competed in the week-long tournament from Aug. 10 to 17 at Softball City in Surrey.

More than 50 teams made of players from around the world were in B.C. for the tournament.

The Steveston Canadians won against the Pukaist Heat with athlete Yoishi Hikida hitting two home runs to move the team to the winner's side of the bracket.

This set the team up for the match against the New York Gremlins, the number-one team in the world, under the leadership of Jack Besgrove, the top pitcher from South Wales, Australia, and Richmond-trained Bryan Abery.

While the Steveston Canadians lost against the Gremlins, they secured victories against Ontario's Redmen, and Richmond's U23 Rays.

Steveston Canadians lost to Sydney's Australian Tropic, which placed them in the bottom half of the playoff draw.

The team then competed against Washington's A's and advanced to the championship to compete against the Michigan Midland Explorers.

Steveston Canadians lost 7-6 in the final inning finishing in fourth and a new world ranking as the 20th men's fast-pitch team in 2024.

Athlete Hikida was named all-world catcher and athlete Clint Taylor was honoured as both all-world second baseman and top hitter.
