Two warming centres with 33 spots altogether will be open in Richmond starting Thursday night following an "extreme weather alert."
This alert was issued Thursday morning by the Richmond community representative under the Assistance to Shelter Act.
The warming centres are meant for people who are unhoused during inclement weather.
The temperature is expected to drop close to zero over the next few days, with rain and a possibility of snow at higher elevations forecast over the next few days.
The warming centre at Brighouse Park, at No. 3 Road and Granville Avenue, has 15 mats and they accept all genders. Pets on leash are allowed.
The Brighouse location is open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
There is a second warming centre at South Arm Pool, located at 10100 South Arm Place, off Williams Road just west of Garden City Road.
South Arm Pool has 18 mats, and they also accept all genders. Pets are also accepted at this location.
The South Arm warming centre is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
At this point, the warming centres are only open until Sunday morning.
