School was out early at Richmond’s McMath secondary after a fire broke out on Tuesday morning.
According to a student who does not wish to be named, the fire broke out in a washroom at around 8:30 a.m. A video submitted by the student shows dark smoke coming out of the washroom.
The sprinklers were activated and everyone was evacuated from the building.
“During the evacuation, both staff and students remained calm,” said David Sadler, Richmond school district spokesperson.
Classes were cancelled for the day and will resume tomorrow, May 3.
