A woman was arrested in a Richmond mobile phone store.

A suspect was arrested after falling through the ceiling of a Richmond store last week - landing right in front of police.

Richmond RCMP officers responded to a call about "strange noises" coming from inside a mobile phone store near No. 3 and Leslie roads around 11 p.m. on May 6.

A 50-year-old woman from Vancouver, who was hiding in the ceiling, fell through and landed in front of the officers while they were searching the store.

The woman, who is known to police, was arrested and multiple cellular sim cards were recovered.

The alleged thief was not seriously injured and refused medical assistance.

"Even though the gift giving season is eight months away, we definitely appreciate the gift from above, so to speak," said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP.

An investigation is on-going.
