A couple of enterprising thieves stole thousands of dollars of merchandise from dozens of storage lockers in a Coquitlam apartment complex and the public is being asked to help solve the crime.
Coquitlam RCMP are seeking the identities of two individuals believed responsible for breaking into approximately 20 storage lockers in an apartment building in the 3000 block of Guildford Way, Coquitlam.
The break and enter was first reported to Coquitlam RCMP on Dec. 14, 2019.
Over the next several days, it was discovered that thousands of dollars worth of belongings — including luggage, household goods, motorcycle helmets and tools — had been stolen.
“It’s possible it happened over the course of several days,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, however he noted the crime was reported on Dec. 14, 2019, which is also when video was shot of the suspects.
Because of the quality of video taken, it’s hoped someone will recognize the pair and come forward with information.
“There’s a good chance someone is going to recognize these suspects and provide the key that will solve this crime,” McLaughlin further stated in a press release.
Suspect 1 is a man who appears to be Caucasian, may be in his thirties, and is described as having a narrow nose, with close-set eyes and beard stubble, and wearing all-black clothing including a black baseball cap.
Suspect two is a woman who appears to be Caucasian, possibly in her thirties, with long brown hair worn in two braids with a narrow face. She is wearing a red jacket and a New York Yankees baseball cap.
Most likely the goods were taken for re-sell to make some quick cash, which McLaughlin suspects was likely used for “substances,” such as drugs.
To prevent further break-ins to storage lockers, McLaughlin advises people to keep track of fobs and other electronic devices for gaining entry into apartment complexes, keep valuable items out of sight in the lockers and install good-quality locks to deter thieves.
He noted that this type of crime is risky for thieves, because often they are met by someone who lives in the apartment who calls the police, “and then we show up and arrest them.”
If you think you recognize either of the suspects, call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency line at 604-945-1550 and ask for Constable Amarveer Ark (file 2019-37603).
