Health Canada has issued a recall for two Thomas & Friends toy train cars due to ingestion hazards.
Two Wooden Railway Troublesome Trucks, one with crates and one with paint, contain a plastic connector with a high-powered magnet that may come off and be ingested by children of all ages.
The recall is jointly issued by Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and Mattel Canada.
The product numbers, HBJ89 and HBJ90, can be found on the underside of each train car. For those purchased on Amazon.ca, consumers can also refer to their Amazon Standard Identification Numbers B09P4J9N5J and B09P4G581J.
Swallowing small, powerful magnets can pose "serious and potentially life-threatening risks," said Health Canada.
Multiple magnets swallowed within a short period of time can attract each other while moving through the intestines, causing the intestines to twist and create blockages or tearing of the intestinal walls.
Approximately 1,097 units of the affected products were sold in Canada from October to December 2022.
The company has received one report of the plastic connector detaching from the toy in the U.S. but has not heard of any injuries in Canada and U.S.
