Anyone relying on TransLink's many modes of transport to get around Metro Vancouver Tuesday morning (Feb. 4) should plan for a possibly longer commute.
The public transit agency has issued an alert and an update to outline its response to the current snowy and cold conditions across the region.
"[T]here may be delays in service due to the weather and road conditions," cautions TransLink.
Passengers can expect to see more agents on the ground assisting customers and ensuring operations run smoothly.
TransLink has provided the following updates about each mode of transit:
SkyTrain
- SkyTrain is running to all stations on all three lines.
- Expo and Canada Lines are operating with normal service.
- SkyTrain Attendants are positioned at the front of Millennium Line trains to prevent emergency braking caused by snow and freezing temperatures, resulting in lower-than-usual frequencies.
- Millennium Line customers should plan an extra 10-15 minutes.
Bus
- Some 60-foot buses have been swapped for 40-foot buses.
- There is service on every route but there may be some delays due to road conditions.
- A snow shuttle is currently active between SFU and Hastings/Duthie. Customers travelling on the R5 will have to change buses at Hastings and Duthie.
- As the weather changes, modifications to service may be made. Customers should check their specific route for impacts before going out.
- TransLink is coordinating with municipalities to ensure priority roads are cleared.
HandyDART
- HandyDART is prioritizing customers with medical appointments, work, or school as snow remains on many local or side roads.
- Service availability may vary depending on local conditions.
SeaBus & West Coast Express
- SeaBus and West Coast Express are running regular service.
TransLink adds that updates will be offered continuously through its Transit Alerts webpage, and customers should check in frequently as the weather and road conditions can change quickly.
