Two commercial vehicles removed from Richmond roads due to 'critical defects'

RCMP gave out 163 speeding tickets and 80 distracted driving tickets in Richmond in August.

Two commercial vehicles were taken off the road on one day in August “due to critical defects,” according to police.

Richmond RCMP were doing targeted enforcement on commercial vehicles on No. 6 Road on Aug. 23 and ended up issuing nine charges with a total of $3,688 in fines doled out.

RCMP also continued to catch drivers and motorcyclists going excessive speeds on Richmond roads in August.

One car was going double the speed limit – 112 km/h in a 60 km/h zone – on Russ Baker Way on Aug. 13, while another one was going 110 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Aug. 17 on No. 2 Road.

Both cars were impounded for seven days.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was caught with a learner’s licence riding without a supervisor outside of daylight hours. The motorcycle was also impounded.

High collision hot spots for targeted enforcement

Richmond RCMP officers will be focusing enforcement in the following high-collision areas throughout September:

Highway 91 through Shell Road and Alderbridge Way

No. 3 Road between Sea Island Way and Bridgeport Road

No 3 Road between Westminster Highway and Granville Avenue

Westminster Highway between No. 2 Road and No. 3 Road

August enforcement tickets

Speeding: 163

Driver’s licence infractions: 159

Distracted driving: 80

Impaired drug/alcohol infractions: 28

Vehicle-related infractions: 200
