Update: Richmond’s 8th homicide victim of 2017 named

30-year-old known gang associate from Surrey is city's latest homicide victim

The body of a man found in Garden City Park in the early hours of Tuesday has been named as 30-year-old Ibrahim Amjad Ibrahim, of Surrey.

Police say Ibrahim, who was a known gang associate, died from gunshot wounds.

Ibrahim was known to police and homicide investigators believe his murder was targeted.

Although he was associated to gangs, police say it’s too early to tell if that link was the reason for his murder.

In August, Surrey RCMP said Ibrahim was involved in a Lower Mainland gang conflict and was refusing to cooperate with police, despite being targeted.

“It remains early in the investigation and investigators are working to determine motive,” noted the release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

“IHIT is working closely with the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the B.C. Coroner’s Service during this evidence gathering phase,” said Cpl. Frank Jang, of IHIT.

“Anyone in the area of the parking lot of Garden City Park during the overnight period of Monday, Oct. 9 is asked to contact IHIT.

“This is yet another life that has been lost too soon. It is a reminder that if you are involved in or associated to criminal activity, then you are not immune to its inherent dangers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected]

Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The Richmond News reported earlier this week how, shortly after 4:30 a.m., Richmond RCMP responded to the area of Garden City Road, where the body was found.

A white tent could be seen covering an area near the wooden bridge over the pond in the park.

Police tape has cordoned off most of the park, with Mounties guarding the entrances to the immediate area.

The grim discovery is Richmond’s eighth homicide of 2017.
