Police are searching for a potential witness to two alleged stranger assaults on Feb. 14, 2023.

Richmond RCMP has released two videos from Feb. 14, 2023 in the hopes of identifying a potential witness to two stranger assaults.

The videos posted on May 9 show the potential witness crossing the street at the intersection of Buswell Street and Cook Road at around 10:20 a.m. on Valentine's Day in 2023.

The person can be seen wearing a blue jacket and dark pants and was a pedestrian in the area.

"We have exhausted all internal avenues to identify this potential witness which is why we are releasing this video to the public," said Insp. Michael Cohee, Richmond RCMP investigative services officer.

"To the person in this video, you may not even know it, but you may have valuable information that will help advance this investigation. We are asking you to come forward and speak with us."

Police had responded to a "possible medical emergency" in the area mid-morning of Feb. 14 and discovered the woman was the victim of an alleged assault.

A second report was then made to police by another woman alleging she was assaulted around the same time in the same area, and police determined the two incidents were related.

Although a man was subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the incidents, police are searching for more information to advance the investigation.

According to court records, the prosecution directed a stay of proceedings on the case on July 20, 2023.

Richmond RCMP is asking anyone who may have been in the area at that time or recognize the man in this video to contact Richmond RCMP.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2023-4877.
