World Fest kicks off this afternoon in Minoru Park, and the City of Richmond is advising visitors to travel to the event on eco-friendly transportation.
Parking at the festival will also be limited, so travel on foot, by bike – the event will have complimentary bike valets – or via bus or the Canada Line is encouraged. Minoru Park is just a short jaunt from Brighouse Station.
The festival site is fully accessible, and for the first time, World Fest will have a designated raised viewing platform for individuals with mobility or special seating considerations. The viewing platform will be located in front of the Mosaic Main Stage.
The fifth-annual event takes place (Aug. 30) from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will feature over 100 performances on eight stages, sporting events from around the world – such as friendly Sumo matches, broomball and free skating in the Antarctica Zone (Minoru Arenas).
There will also be how-to demonstrations, where visitors can learn Japanese bookbinding techniques and Métis finger-weaving, and a variety of live performances.
