Self-employed artists and craftspeople putting off their tax preparation until the last minute are in luck this year thanks to the announcement of the City of Richmond's Art at Work series of professional development workshops this spring.

Self-employed artists and craftspeople putting off their tax preparation until the last minute are in luck this year thanks to the announcement of the City of Richmond's Art at Work series of professional development workshops this spring.

In one of the first events being offered (Thursday, April 26), Marianna Scott of Quantum Accounting Services will present her Tax Preparation Made Painless workshop.

Ideal for self-employed artists with little or no experience preparing taxes, this workshop will reveal the fundamentals of taxation including which expenses are deductible, what record keeping is required and how to get and stay organized.

All events take place at the Richmond Cultural Centre located at 7700 Minoru Gate. Prices range from $20-40 per workshop (except Establishing a Non-Profit Society and Grant Writing which are free to Richmond residents.) WESTWIND TEACHER'S LIFE CELEBRATED

There will be a Celebration of Life for former Westwind elementary school teacher Archie Whalen on Sunday, April 29 at 1: 30 p.m. at St. John's School, 2215 West 10th Ave., Vancouver. (Between Vine & Yew).

The beloved and quirky teacher died on April 13 after suffering a heart attack. He was 62.

Everyone is invited to wear his or her favourite Whalen inspired tie. After the 2 p.m. service, refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon at www.heartandstroke.bc.ca.
