A showdown between the respective conference leaders in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League proved to be a one-sided affair on Wednesday night in Aldergrove.
The visiting Richmond Sockeyes scored three goals in the opening period and never looked back in handing the Kodiaks a lopsided 7-1 loss. The win improved Richmond's league best record to 27-5-0, heading into last night's home ice tilt with the North Delta Devils.
Aldergrove entered the game with an impressive 22-7-1-1 mark that included a 43 overtime victory one night earlier against the Delta Ice Hawks. However, the Kodiaks had no answer for a Richmond team that dominated from start to finish.
Rookie Kevan Killistoff opened the scoring at the seven minute mark of the first period and would go on to have a big night with three goals and one assist.
Kootenay Alder made 25 stops to get the win. The Richmond Minor Hockey product has taken over the team's number one goaltending duties after Jonah Imoo signed with the Powell River Paper Kings of the B.C. Hockey League.
Imoo was one of 10 Sockeyes named to participate in Monday's PIJHL all-star game in Mission, joining Ryan Cooper, Justin Rai, Keenan Webb, Rudi Thorsteinson, Kyzen Loo, Jeremy Hamaguchi, Mike Ball Carter Popoff and Killistoff.
