A Canadian synchronized swimming Olympian is visiting a Richmond pool this weekend for a solo performance and training workshop.
Jacqueline Simoneau, a three-time Olympian and current World Aquatics Solo (free) champion will be at Watermania Pool from Nov. 9 to 10.
Simoneau's public solo performance will be held on Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m. followed by a private workshop with the Pacific Wave Artistic Swim Club athletes.
The main goal of her visit to Richmond is to run a training workshop for club athletes ages eight to 24.
“It’s a rare opportunity to learn from someone so accomplished, yet so down-to-earth," said Meng Chen, technical director at Pacific Wave Artistic Swim Club.
"Jacqueline’s story reminds us of the power of commitment and passion."
Chen also coached Simoneau at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and was also the former Canadian National Team and Olympic Games Head Coach for Artistic Swimming.
Simoneau's presentation for the club titled "The Olympic Journey" aims to inspire young athletes through her own experience starting artistic swimming at the age of nine.
The Olympian struggled through injury to become a podiatric medicine student and came out of retirement to compete in her third Olympic Games.
