Richmond hockey fans will get the chance to see their NHL stars preparing for the coming season, when a stack of players will arrive for a conditioning camp.
Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko and forward J.T. Miller are joining 22 other NHL pros for a four-day charity training camp at Minoru Arenas.
The training camp, set to be held from Aug. 28 to 31, is organized by the Vancouver Hockey School (VHS) to prepare NHL-contracted players for the upcoming season.
This year, the camp is partnering with Richmond-born Calgary Flames defenceman Troy Stecher’s charity — the TS51 Foundation.
Stecher is raising funds in support of Diabetes Canada. His late father and coach, Peter Stecher, passed away on June 21, 2020 at the age of 65 due to diabetes complications.
Participants will go through skills drills and conditioning and work on off-ice strength and speed with top coaches and trainers from Vancouver.
The public will be able to go along, for free, and watch the players from Monday to Thursday between 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with donations to Stecher’s charity encouraged.
