Rino's Originals scored twice in the opening five minutes on their way to a 4-2 win over the Delta Blaze, handing the defending RASA Spring League First Division champs their first defeat sine the 2016 season.

The second half of the Richmond Adult Soccer Association’s Spring League season began with a significant result in Division One play.

Defending regular season champion Delta Blaze was handed its first loss since the 2016 campaign, a 4-2 defeated to the Rino’s Originals. Delta went unbeaten last season and had extended the streak through six games before last Tuesday’s match.

The Rino’s got off to a terrific start, scoring twice in the opening five minutes and would go on to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the interval. A much better second half performance produced a pair of goals but the hole was too big for the Blaze to climb out of.

The win puts the Rino’s within two points of the Blaze although the defending champs still enjoy a game in hand. Other action saw third place Westside play to a 1-1 draw with United Nations, while Rino’s Tigers and Binger’s Army played to the same result.

The RASA Spring Second Division also produced a surprise result last week when Metropolitan FC handed Bombastic FC its first defeat of the season, a 3-1 final. The result moves Metropolitan into top spot with Bombastic two points back.

The hottest team in the division is the Richmond All Blacks who have now reeled off five straight wins after starting the season 0-2. They toppled Richmond FC 2-0 to move within three points of first place.

It sets up an interesting encounter this week with the All-Blacks looking to avenge a season-opening loss to Bombastic.

Other results saw the Strikers defeat South Delta FC 6-2 and the Greencaps hammer Van Sal 11-1.
