Richmond Christian Eagles celebrate their silver medal finish at last week’s B.C. Invitational Junior Boys Volleyball Championships in Kelowna. It was the best result at the event in school history.
It was a historic achievement for the Richmond Christian Eagles at the B.C. Invitational Junior Boys Volleyball Championships in West Kelowna.
Competing against 24 schools of all sizes from across the province, the sixth ranked Eagles more than lived up to their billing — reaching the championship match before falling to No. 1 Langley Christian.
The locals hung tough with the heavily favoured Lightning, losing 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.
The silver medal finish was the best-ever by a junior boys team in the history of Richmond Christian and certainly provides an extremely bright future for the school at the senior level.
The Eagles impressed everyone with their tenacity, not dropping a set to reach the final, including a dominant win over No. 2 ranked Duchess Park of Prince George in the semi-finals.
Martin Prinsloo and Leo Tam were named to the tournament all-star team. The Richmond Christian roster also features: Matthew Penner (team captain), Stanley Cen, Shawn Chan Creston Fok, Joshua James, Elijah Kim, Zachary Lee, Nathan Louie, Jay Makalintal, Hansen Tu and Alan Yang.
The team was coached by Karen Prinsloo, with assistance from Sigfried Ong. Jeremy Chan was the manager.
