McMath 8th at B.C. AAA Field Hockey Championships

Wildcats cap another stellar campaign and look forward to hosting 2017 provincials

McMath Wildcats capped another stellar season with a competitive eighth place finish at last week’s B.C. “AAA” Girls Field Hockey Championships in Surrey.
The Lower Mainland zone champions reached the quarter-finals before dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision to eventual runner-up Kelowna. The girls then closed out the 16-team tournament with two more narrow 1-0 losses to Kelowna and Francis Kelsey in placement play.
Earlier, the Wildcats earned a playoff berth by capturing their pool group with a 2-0-1 record. The Steveston school defeated Churchill (4-2) and Mt.Doug (1-0), before battling South Delta to a scoreless draw.
The team’s exemplary sportsmanship earned them the presitgous BC School Sports Fair Play Award which also reflects its attitude and effort throughout the three-day championships.
There is plenty to look forward to in 2017 with the Wildcats hosting the B.C. “AAA” Championships, bringing the event to Richmond for the first time in recent memory.
Ten of the 16 players on the McMath roster are eligible to return.

Grade 11 — Kate Schmidt, Katrina Montinola, Dakota Chan, Maddie de Giorgio. Grade 10 — Veronica Surrette, Samantha Trueman, Ellie Wan, Sarah Godfrey, Aish Sander. Grade 8 — Hope Chan.
