Soccer Sunday is proceeding as planned at the Minoru Park Oval and that’s a huge accomplished in itself for the Richmond Adult Soccer Association.
Dealing with a month plagued by cold weather and field closures, RASA still managed to get all of its playdown matches in to set the stage for the annual tripleheader.
The action starts with the RASA All-Star Game at 11 a.m. It follows with the Don Taylor League Cup at 1p.m. and Masters Cup final at 3 p.m.
“It was a challenge to say the least,” said RASA president Sean Handlin. “It took a lot of mid-week make-up games and some adjustments too like the Masters Cup only being the top four teams.”
Handlin added teams rather have the improvising instead of the cup finals being postponed to a later date. The association has also had the Minoru Oval booked for months in advance and the venue is the best in the city to not only host the matches but to accommodate a beer garden as well.
Despite a scramble to the finish line, the League Cup has almost gone to form with West Coast taking on the Graduates.
The sides currently sit first and third respectively in the First Division. It’s also a rematch of a year ago when the Graduates prevailed 3-1.
The Masters Cup final features the Old Blacks putting their perfect season (15-0-0) on the line against the third place RC Gunners.
