Richmond Olympian Camryn Rogers won gold in the women's hammer throw event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
Rogers earned her spot in the finals after throwing a distance of 74.69 metres at the qualification games on Aug. 4.
During the women's hammer throw finals on Aug. 8, Rogers threw the furthest distance of 76.97 metres securing first place followed by U.S.A's Annette Echikunwoke with 75.48 metres
Rogers and Echikunwoke were neck-to-neck during their fifth and sixth throws.
Hugs and screams were shared following the 25-year-old's final throw earning her the top podium spot.
This marks Canadian history as Rogers is the first Canadian to medal in the woman's hammer throw event at the Olympics.
Rogers was seen hugging her coaches, family and fellow Kajaks athlete Rowan Hamilton, and they all told the Richmond resident how proud they were of her.
The Paris Olympics is Rogers' second Olympic Games, her first being Tokyo 2020 where she finished fifth in the women's hammer throw event.
The hammer-throwing star became the first Canadian female athlete to win a World Championship gold medal in 20 years in 2023.
