Richmond's Olympic racewalker Evan Dunfee finished fifth in his event in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Dunfee competed in the men's 20-kilometre race walk event on July 31, with a time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 16 seconds, just six seconds behind third-place winner Alvaro Martin from Spain.

This is Dunfee's third Olympic Games. His first was the 2016 Rio Games, where he set the Canadian record for the 50-kilometre race walk and placed fourth.

In the 2020 Tokyo Games, Dunfee won bronze in the 50-kilometre race before the International Olympic Committee removed the event from future Games.

The men's 50-kilometre race walk has been replaced with a mixed two-person 20-kilometre marathon relay, which Dunfee is competing in alongside Nanaimo's Olivia Lundman on Aug. 7

Dunfee has been coaching Lundman leading up to the Games. The duo qualified for the Olympic mixed marathon relay on April 21 after competing in the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Richmond's Camryn Rogers is scheduled to compete on Aug. 4 for the women's hammer throw qualification event.
