Strong winds are expected in Richmond despite warm weather and sunshine in the forecast for Monday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Richmond and Metro Vancouver, forecasting “gusty outflow winds” of up to 70km/h on Sept. 7.

According to the weather agency, a strong ride of high pressure will build over northern B.C. and spread southwards Sunday night.

The increase in pressure will drive strong winds through the coastal valleys on Labour Day Monday.

High pressure build-up is due to an abrupt change in weather conditions across the prairies over weekend,

Winds are expected to peak during the day and may remain through the night.

The public is advised to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
