Re: "Architect begs to have heritage status removed from Steveston Hotel"
I live across from the hotel.
I agree the facade of the building in no way resembles the original hotel.
Somewhere in the past the city granted permission to modify the facade to its current condition, which completely destroyed the original building's architectural details.
I believe in the interest of maintaining Steveston Village heritage, a new hotel should be constructed in the character of the original hotel/beer parlour and recycle some of the original elements of the building that may be concealed in the building structure.
This would be a handsome addition to the Steveston Village streetscape and provide residents with a leisure amenity.
