The 34th Annual JCC Jewish Book Festival will kick off at Richmond Public Library and other locations in the Lower Mainland from Feb. 9 to 14.

The six-day festival will feature a roster of writers from across Canada, the U.S., Israel and New Zealand, and will be packed with a series of literary events, including meetings with the authors, readings and panel discussions and book club activities.

“The Jewish Book Festival embraces everyone who loves the written word and thrives on meaningful, captivating conversations,” said Dana Camil Hewitt, director of the festival, in a press release.

“While the nucleus of our festival is Jewish-themed, our speakers, events and audience all defy narrow categorization…with that, the festival expands its reach and becomes ever more inclusive.”

As part of the festival, Burnaby writer Ellen Schwartz, author of 17 children’s book, will appear at a free event to talk about her new book at Richmond Public Library on Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Her book, The Princess Dolls, published last May, is a story about how a friendship starts to fall apart just as hatred and suspicion are increasing against Japanese-Canadians in 1942 Vancouver.

Other events of the festival will mostly take place at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver in Vancouver.
