Creative Grade 7s compete in Tennessee

A group of creative and dedicated Grade 7 students at St. Joseph the Worker elementary worked tirelessly for eight months in order to participate in Destination Imagination - an international problem-solving based, cooperative team effort competition in which students develop their own ideas to tackle various challenges.

All that hard work has paid off. The team of seven, who have dubbed themselves MCSLAKKS, has qualified to participate at the Global Competition in Tennessee on May 23 to 26.

According to parent Michael Normann Cabrera, the students "have shown such teamwork, resilience and genuine passion for working towards a common goal .... The finished product is a creation of their own imaginations, giving us a glimpse of how these tweens see the world, and is truly a reflection of their excellent teamwork."

However, to get there costs money. So, the students are fundraising in order to pay for their travel, registration and lodging expenses.

They've already organized a bake sale (raising $300) and have plans to hold a school lunch fundraiser, a babysitting/movie night in the school gym, have another bake sale at the school's art show and have a car wash and bottle drive at the school parking lot.
