The Alzheimer Society of B.C. will hold a fundraising event in Richmond on Wednesday – giving those wanting to donate in person a chance during the current postal strike.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Alzheimer Society’s resource centre at the Caring Place will be open where donations can be made. Furthermore, there will be information about support and education about dementia.
Many donors to the Alzheimer Society are seniors, said the society’s chief development officer Cathryn France, and for many of them, giving to charity is “an important tradition,” especially during the holiday season.
“But many of them are still uncomfortable donating online,” she added. “We’re delighted to be able to invite them to drop by, enjoy some holiday treats and support a cause they care about. We want donating to be a simple and joyful part of the season.”
All donations will be matched, dollar for dollar up to $85,000 by “a group of incredibly kind donors,” the society explained. The $85,000 represents the 85,000 people in B.C. living with dementia.
The Giving Day event will take place at the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Richmond Resource Centre at #290-7000 Minoru Blvd. - the Caring Place - on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations can also be made at alzbc.org/holidaygiving or by phoning 1-800-667-3742.
