From breakfast socials to a “positive ageing photo campaign,” Richmond’s nod to National Seniors Day on Oct. 1 has a little something for everyone.
The City of Richmond is celebrating its more experienced residents with a series of free events to mark to mark the day and week:
• Week of Monday, Sept. 30 – Annual Positive Aging Campaign
This year’s photo campaign showcased at various city community centres and facilities will highlight positive images of adults aged 55+ years living in Richmond along with the benefits of participation in community programs and services;
• Tuesday, Oct. 1 – National Seniors Day Social
9 to 10:30 a.m. at West Richmond Community Centre
Learn about 55+ year program activities at West Richmond Community Centre, share ideas for future programming and enjoy a light breakfast. Registration required. Barcode #2745167;
• Tuesday, Oct. 1 –Writer-in-Residence Meet and Greet
1 to 2:30 p.m. at Minoru Centre for Active Living
Meet Cynthia Sharp in this drop-in event and learn about an upcoming Sensory Writing workshop series, take part in some innovative writing activities or start a memoir;
• Tuesday, Oct. 1 – Musical Interludes
1:30 to 3 p.m. at Minoru Centre for Active Living
Attend this drop-in, lively and piano-led sing-a-long of some classic favourites. Light refreshments served;
• Tuesday, Oct. 1 – Climate Change and You Presentation
7 to 8 p.m. at Minoru Centre for Active Living
Explore climate change in BC and its impacts on all levels and learn how small changes can make a difference. This session is presented by the Suzuki Elders in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation. Registration required. Barcode #2746933;
• Wednesday, Oct. 2 – Get Together Social
10 to 11 a.m. at South Arm Community Centre
