Video: Thermometer in blueberry package results in large police presence in Richmond

Police were taping off FreshCo at the Richlea Square Shopping Centre after reports of a "suspicious package."

Police taped off FreshCo at No. 3 and Williams roads and evacuated the grocery store and other businesses on Wednesday afternoon after reports of a suspicious package.

As it turned out, the "suspicious package" that was found was "a thermometer that was left inside a package of blueberries," said media spokesperson Cpl. Kenneth Lau with the Richmond RCMP.

"Based on the information received from the public, out of an abundance of caution businesses were evacuated in the area," Lau told the Richmond News

One Richmond resident, Nathan Gan, posted on X that he told by police they were investigating a "suspicious package" at the grocery store at Richlea Square Shopping Centre.

Gan added police told him, in the end, it was a "false alarm."

Another Richmond resident, who was in the neighbouring gym, was told to leave immediately.
