India delivered an overall strong performance at the 43rd edition of the Nations Cup in Richmond.
India dominated the Women’s Open and was awarded the most outstanding player and top newcomer prizes after beating Italy 1-0 in the final at the tournament featuring teams comprised of players from the same country or ethnicity.
India also secured the Men’s Over 45 title beating Scotland 2-1 and finished as the runner-up in the Men’s Open after losing to Africa 2-0 in the final. India's Justyn Sandhu was awarded top newcomer.
Hundreds of players participated in the Nations Cup with a total of 72 teams in the following categories: Open Age Men, Open Age Women, Over 30 Men, Over 38 Men, Over 45 Men, Over 52 Men and Over 59 Men.
In the seven categories, England, India, Africa, Scotland and Iran dominated.
After winning the Men's Open championship, Africa's Isaac Kyei was named the most outstanding player and defender in his category while Italy's Dominic Di Paola was named top goal scorer.
England also performed well in the tournament, clinching the Men’s Over 38 division after defeating the Caribbean 2-1, and the Men’s Over 52 after routing China by the same score.
In the senior Men’s Over 59 division, Scotland beat Iran 1-0 in the final, winning a title for the first time since 2019.
Finally, Iran was crowned champion in the Men’s Over 30 after overcoming Ireland by two unanswered goals.
The annual tournament was held from July 19 to 21 in multiple fields across Richmond, including Hugh Boyd Community Park, Minoru Park and South Arm Park.
