A truck's unsafe trailer and license plate were seized in Richmond.

A driver's truck trailer was seized after Richmond police found it unsafe for the road.

On May 24, around 1 p.m., two Richmond RCMP officers noticed a truck hauling a trailer that appeared to be "in poor condition with an unsecured load."

The trailer "became destabilized" as the truck drove eastbound on Highway 91, near the Highway 99 exit.

Officers ordered the trailer to be taken off the road and towed away, and they seized the truck's license plate.

The driver was charged for transporting insecure cargo, failing to use a breakaway device and failing to maintain a vehicle in a safe operating condition.

Richmond RCMP is reminding drivers to secure loads properly as it is a legal requirement and a critical safety measure.

"Insecure loads can lead to collisions, causing injuries or fatalities. Drivers should ensure that all cargo is fastened securely and that trailers are in good working condition. equipped with necessary safety equipment including breakaway devices," said Richmond RCMP in a statement.

Richmond RCMP joined BC Highway Patrol recently for a joint operation targeting high-risk driving behaviours along Richmond highways.
